Our biggest project in 2017 involved removing a 454 CID gas engine, Bravo III X outdrive, Onan gas generator, cable steering and outdated electronics and wiring. We installed a Yanmar 6LPA-STZP 315HP diesel engine, Yanmar ZT 370 outdrive, Yacht Thruster system - bow and stern, SeaStar hydraulic steering, Cruz Pro electronic fuel gauge, Flo Scan fuel metering system, wireless man overboard (MOB) engine shutdown system, Garmin autopilot and electrical system upgrade including battery switches and charging system. Conversion from gas to diesel DOUBLED THE DISTANCE per tank of fuel! All work has been completed and we are ready to launch for the 2018 boating season.
We are currently installing a Northern Lights 6kW diesel generator with sound enclosure in a sailboat that originally did not have a generator. This installation required a custom built, stainless steel mounting frame with lock-out sliders for easy access for maintenance. Service included replacing a corroded flax packing gland with a 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 PSS dripless packing.
Having this generator provides the ability to run all 120 volt appliances: battery charger, microwave oven, refrigerator and AIR CONDITIONING when away from the dock. Estimated date of completion is mid-May for the 2018 boating season.
This Rhodes 47' required removal of TWO 130hp Perkins diesel engines and transmissions, props and shafts, diesel generator, thru-hull fittings and seawater strainers. The engines were replaced with two Yanmar 150hp 4LV fully electronic diesels with ZF 63A transmissions. A 6kW Northern Lights diesel generator will also be installed.
Service will include replacing all fuel lines, water intake hoses and the complete exhaust systems for both engines and the generator. All potable water lines, filters and pumps will be replaced. All throttle, shift cables and controls were replaced with fully electronic control heads for both upper and lower stations.
Work began in November 2017 and estimated date of completion is June 2018 for the summer boating season!
Currently we are working on replacing a Yanmar SD 25 saildrive. During a maintenance call, the saildrive oil was found to be milky, indicating water in the oil. Extensive damage to the saildrive warranted replacement of the entire lower unit.
In this case, water in the oil was caused by a loose prop hub. Left undetected, this created a vibration damaging the prop shaft seals and causing water to leak into the saildrive. This diluted the oil and decreased lubricity causing damage to the bearings and gears. Estimated date of completion is May 1, 2018.
NEW for 2018 is our extensive inventory of Yanmar engine parts including filters, belts, zincs, o-rings, gaskets, ignition switches and keys, complete panels, wiring harnesses and waterpumps. We also stock fast-moving parts for Northern Lights, Westerbeke, Universal and Kubota engines and Sherwood and Johnson impellers, Racor fuel filters, marine hoses and clamps.
