Being an Authorized Dealer requires that we attend continuing education classes to remain current with the newest products, service updates and to maintain factory technical support regarding sales and installation.

Great Lakes Diesel is the largest Yanmar dealer on Lake Erie. Our on-line parts store stocks fast-moving parts and has a large selection of filters, belts, impellers and hoses to maintain your yacht. Customized parts kits are available for your cruising needs.

The first Yanmar engine rebuilt by GLD was a YSB8 in 1988. We have been an authorized dealer for Yanmar since 1999. In 2014, Great Lakes Diesel was recognized and awarded for Outstanding Yanmar Engine Sales/Sailboat. In 2017, continuing education regarding Smart Assist Diagnostics/Vessel Control Systems was completed through the Yanmar Marine International Certified Training Center. 

Engines sold and installed include the GM Series, JH Series, YM Series, 6LYA Series and 6LP Series. The newest available Yanmar model - LV Series - is fully electronic and virtually smoke-free. We are currently repowering a yacht with two 4LV-150hp diesel engines.

GLD has been an authorized dealer for Westerbeke Diesel engines since 2000. We sell and service all Westerbeke marine engines. The current line of Westerbeke Propulsion include Model 12D TWO, 30C THREE, 35E THREE, 44C FOUR and 55D FOUR. 

GLD also sells and services the Westerbeke line of Low-CO gasoline generators and D-NET Diesel generators. The Low CO generators operate at a low rpm for long life and low maintenence. The D-NET Series is available fully networked to NMEA 2000.

Universal diesel engines have been a staple in the marine industry for over 50 years. The current models being installed are M-25XPB and M3-20B. If you are looking to replace an aging Atomic-4, the Universal B-Series is still the boaters choice for Atomic-4 replacement.

Scania diesel engines are commercially rated, fully electronic and based on a robust design with a strength optimised cylinder block. This promotes repairability and fuel economy. In 2015, GLD repowered the Ohio Department of Natural Resources research vessel R/V Grandon with a Scania DI 13-030M, 300hp engine and Twin Disc MG-1091 transmission. With increased fuel economy and reliability, the vessel was able to increase productivity by 20%. Our mechanics completed Marine Tier 3 Training for Scania engines in 2015.
